Children’s Bible Stories

The Works Publisher’s Outlet currently has some really good resources that are ridiculously cheap!  Over the course of the last week or so I’ve been tentatively ordering copies to give them a read.  My experience is that when books like this appear in outlets they often stray far and wide from the source material.  So we’ve given them a read and they are good.  Obviously they are retelling the scriptures for young children but the content is good.

So how cheap are they?

My First Bible Stories is £3 and as this photo illustrates, it is a substantial book with a padded cover and a lovely bow to keep it shut.  It also comes with a partner called My First Prayers.  If you buy them as a pair it works out at £5!

The Easter Story and Noah’s Ark are part of a series including Jonah and the Whale, In the Beginning and Joseph and His Coat of Many Colours.  As you can see from this photo, it is a large book with good illustrations.

So what you really need to know is that they are £2 each.  But if you buy 10 or more they become £1 each.  And if you spend over £21, delivery is free.  I’ve bought large sets of them to use with our toddler group at Holy Nativity.

I suspect that with the large number of people I have told this that they may sell out quickly!

Act Justly, Love Mercy, Walk Humbly – Micah 6:8

At Rock Mass we have a yearly theme.  The theme for this year is Micah 6:8, “Act Justly, Love Mercy, Walk Humbly”.  This is the introductory video we’ve put together for each service.  We have a 4:3 ratio background in the service so I thought I’d better do a widescreen version for you with no Rock Mass logos.

Rock Mass is a monthly sacramental alt:worship service at Holy Nativity Church in Mixenden.  Our band Metanoia usually play at it and you are all welcome to come along!!  Bring your friends!  Follow Metanoia on Facebook for updates.

It’s a Wonderful Life… for the poor….

We are in the middle of the lent course at Holy Nativity where we are looking at issues of wealth and poverty.  We have been following Kindle a Flame by Church Action on Poverty and it is really good pulling together a rich variety of scripture and resources.  There is a great group of people coming along with the desire to see God transform our Urban Priority Area.

The above clip is for tonight’s session.  It is amazing to think that in 1946 such clarity could be expressed in the US mainstream.  I wonder how people will react to it and Zacchaeus tonight?

New Song – In the Beginning

Those of you who have had to listen to me pontificate about church music for any length of time will have heard me lament, quality or music, quality of lyrics, lack of scriptures and theological statements in modern music.  You will have no doubt also heard me groan at the mention of most Christmas music for counterproductive and often contradictory to the the faith.

When an email arrived this morning from Resound Worship promising Christmas music, I admit I was skeptical.  I was delighted to find this wonderful song resetting John Chapter 1 as congregational worship.  It comes complete with everything you need as musicians to make it your own.

Awesome!
